WASP Team get the Padel Buzz
17 September 2021
With our centre about to open we were delighted to welcome Wiltshire & Swindon Sport (WASP) down to the courts to help us break them in.
The Active Partnership team are playing a key role in helping us create more awareness of padel. Promoting the sport more widely enables new people to engage with padel and ultimately helps to increase levels of physical activity which is WASP’s main aim.
Prior to getting the team on court, Sharon Heeley (LTA Head of Region) led a discussion about the development of padel in the UK. Sharon explained how our involvement was playing an important part in their overall development strategy; “adding more courts which are inclusive, accessible and available for play year-round pretty much ticks all the boxes”. The LTA Padel Development Plan can be viewd on the LTA website, link here.
Once on court our coaches delivered a 1.5hr introductory padel session which the team thoroughly enjoyed. WASP’s CEO, Steve Boocock commented:
‘As a group we arrived having never picked up a padel racket before, or stepped foot onto a court. Luckily padel is quick and easy to learn and by the end of our session we were having long rallies and plenty of fun!’
We could not have put it better ourselves! We look forward to working with WASP in the future and introducing new companies and organisations to padel through similar events.
