International Women’s Day

7 March 2022

The bunting was out over the weekend as our ladies took to the courts in celebration of International Women’s Day with the latest round of the successful Victorious Secret.

IWD (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

As expected, the event was played in a great atmosphere and the gathering was truly representative of the spirit of IWD. There was of course the customary cakes and refreshments on offer and all the ladies who took part received a commemorative IWD notebook before continuing the celebration in the Clubhouse bar.

The standard of play was excellent and it’s obvious that those competing in these events are benefiting from the competitive edge. Congratulations to Sheena Smith and Laura Padre who were the winning team. Speaking about her new fund love for padel, Sheena said;

“Padel tennis is a wonderfully inclusive sport, open to everyone, irrespective of age, gender or fitness level and I love that men and women can play the game together on an equal footing – there are no strength and power imbalances in padel”

“The health benefits of playing padel are very noticeable: it’s an all-round physical workout and a simple, natural de-stresser and great ‘feel good’ facilitator, both excellent for good mental health. What’s not to love?!”

Stay tuned.
