First Padel Championship a Swinging Success

28 November 2022

There were delighted smiles all around at the conclusion of the first-ever Padel4all-hosted Championship.

Held at the group’s Garon Park complex in Southend’s Leisure and Tennis Complex on Sunday, November 13, seventeen pairs took part in the much-anticipated event.

Winners of three groups picked up trophies

Paul White and Toby Watson won the Group One section, remaining undefeated in the process. Group Two winners were Andrew Churchhouse and Toby Long who, like White and Watson, were also undefeated.

Group Three victors Tim Wise and Luca Turbesi won their box to make it into the final. They then went on to win every match in the group. They went on to meet Charles Allnatt and Neil George in the final. One set to eight games saw Charles and Neil take the win 8-4 in what turned out to be a very tight game.

Garon Centre Manager Zack Smart described the padel tournament as a huge success and an undoubtedly “fantastic event.”

He added: “I just want to say a huge thank you to all the players who took part in our first-ever competition, as well as those who came out to watch and support our event.

“The club was so busy on the day due to such an impressive turnout. It really was buzzing. As a result, we’re hoping for an equally big attendance at our next competition on January 15, next year. In fact, let’s see if we can get even more entrants and supporters along as word starts to spread about just what a great game to play padel really is.”

As well as trophies for the winners, there were also goodies donated by padel ball supply company, Essex-based Drop Shot UK.

The next Championship event will be held on 15th January 2023. Players need to register their interest with Zack at the centre to take part.

Garon Park has four padel courts in total for members to play on – three covered courts with lighting and an open-air state-of-the-art ‘show’ court. The club offers a range of sessions for all ages and abilities, from beginners to those who have been playing the game for some time.

@dropshot_uk: “Padel is a game that can be enjoyed by all, no matter their age, gender or athletic ability. Like other racket sports like tennis and squash, it’s not uncommon to see children and elderly hobbyists sharing Padel clubs with high-level athletes, including professionals.”
