Coaching Update

26 March 2022

March has been a busy month for our coaches. This week Steve, our Head Coach, attended the LTA’s inaugural Level 2 Padel Instructor’s course at the National Tennis Centre. The coaching pathway for padel in the UK has two levels; Instructor (L2) and Coach (L3). In time, they plan to introduce senior and master coach awards, aligning fully with tennis.

Steve will return to the NTC in May to complete the final part of the course, after which he will be one of only a handful of LTA registered Padel Instructors in the UK.

Miguel recently returned to Portugal to watch the latest round of the World Padel Tour, the Vigo Open. Vigo is on the Atlantic coast 150km north of Miguel’s home, Porto, which is famous for it’s fish industry and busy harbour. There were more than just mussels on offer at the tournament and we all enjoyed watching padel at the highest level via the live clips Miguel posted see here. Get ready for plenty of Chiquita and Bandeja’s at his next training session.

Miguel and Lisa Phillips, one of our Southend coaches, will undertake their LTA Activator’s course on Sunday 10th April which we are hosting at Basset Down. The CPD course which provides an introduction to padel coaching is an entry level padel award and a prerequisite for the L2 Instructor qualification; good luck to both.

Finally, we are pleased to welcome back Calli who’s been away in Canada for a few months finishing his skiing qualifications which had been cut short by the pandemic. Calli starts back on Monday 4th April and will lead a busy Schools programme for us over the Summer Term as well as helping to deliver a full centre programme of activities.

All our coaches offer private coaching to individuals and small groups – see rates below.  If you would like more information then drop us a line or email the coaches directly.
